Welcome

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to learn about my candidacy. I would like to share a little bit about myself and why I would like to represent you. I initially thought about running as a result of the disastrous 2011 Real Estate Revaluation. After an unsuccessful appeal, I fought for the review of the 2011 Revaluation and collaborated with citizens all over the county to accomplish this goal. The review proved what the citizens knew to be true: that there were major flaws. The existing state law would not allow for refunds to all – only those who had originally appealed their values. I continued the fight for legislation to enable all taxpayers to receive a refund. The efforts to fix the Revaluation are just over halfway complete -- $16 million has been refunded to the taxpayers to date.

I believe that Mecklenburg County is at a pivotal point. Our county government has gone through some major leadership changes and our Board of County Commissioners needs to be thoughtful and strategic as we move forward. In light of recent circumstances, our county is broken and many citizens are losing faith in their elected leaders. I see many areas that require a proven fighter. For that reason, I want to be your voice. I welcome your views and hope to fight for you on the Mecklenburg County Commission.
